To celebrate 15 years of work, the Architecture Design Fashion team has commissioned creative agency Unity and Pan Studio to develop an exhibition sale that tells the story of British Council commissions, exhibitions and other key aspects of the team’s work, which will run during this year’s London Design Festival. The exhibition will be curated by Pete Collard who will shape the story of the project through investigative work into the narratives surrounding the pieces.
Items will range from the everyday to the extraordinary, the functional to the frivolous. However, they will all embody everything that the British Council team has achieved over the last 15 years. Included in the exhibition and silent auction will be pieces from a wide array of high profile projects such as the Venice Architecture Biennale, and designers including Tom Dixon, Peter Kennard, Pearson Lloyd, Sebastian Bergne, Nigel Shafran, Michael Marriott and Anthony Burrill. Four one-off dresses by Basso & Brooke, inspired by their British Council exchange to Uzbekistan will also be on display. Newly created design ‘one-offs’ made onsite by London’s young creative talent from Goldsmiths College of Art in a workshop hosting a live design challenge will be sold as part of a silent auction. Tools, tech items and exhibition ephemera will be available to buy as part of a more general sale. Throughout the course of the week a number of designers will also give talks abut their work with the British Council.
Funds generated by the sale of items will go into a new British Council fellowship fund to enable an emerging designer to complete a fellowship in Brazil.
Back of the Envelope will be featured in This Way Up due to the generous support of Lomas Davies who have provided computers.
