Chloe de Carvalho
The New Silk Road is in its third year and is focusing on a series of residency exchanges with partners in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
The UK-based fashion design duo Bruno Basso and Christopher Brooke from Basso & Brooke were the first to participate, and in October 2009 the pair spent ten days on a research tour, which coincided with Uzbek Fashion Week.
During their stay they spent three days working with weavers at the Yodgorlik silk factory where they were joined by Ruth Greany, textile designer for Woven Studio. New textiles were designed for production at the silk factory and are being made into a capsule collection to be exhibited in London this year.
